A few weeks ago, Outpost migrated its servers, including our databases, to Amsterdam, away from servers in the U.S. So now all member publishers' data, servers and CTA infrastructure are hosted there.
We also built some fancy new architecture to make it easier to add or remove capacity.
It all happened with almost no downtime. And there's nothing our member publishers need to do.
As for performance, even when loading Outpost stuff from a computer the U.S., things feel snappier than before. Kudos to our CTO Andrew for that and the move generally.
It went so well, we shut down our U.S. servers this morning.
We made the move because well, ((WAVES HANDS WILDLY AROUND)), it seems like a prudent step. Prudent being the word of the day here.
Just to be clear, Outpost has never had a data request, subpoena or National Security Letter dropped on us for our data or any member publisher's data.
But we still thought this was a prudent step given the current political environment.
This move doesn't exempt data from being subject to legal process, but we think having the data in Europe instead of in the U.S. is prudent.
That said. Outpost Publishers Cooperative is still registered in the U.S. and California as a member benefits cooperative.
There's not currently any plans to change anything on that front, but we've done some light exploration of options. But oddly, it's easier to move the servers than the incorporation.
Anyhow, we hope you enjoy your stay in Amsterdam!
