Ghost 6.0 is here! We’ve already gotten a few inquiries about compatibility with Outpost and the answer is simple: you are all good to upgrade whenever you like.
Nothing in Ghost 6.0 affects how Outpost works so migration to the new version is totally up to you, and it has some very cool changes you can read about in the Ghost 6 changelog.
Two initial highlights:
Ghost publications are now connected with an open network! People can discover, follow, like and reply to your posts across Bluesky, Flipboard, Threads, Mastodon, WordPress, Ghost, and any other social web platform. Distribution is now built-in.
They’re introducing a native analytics suite for Ghost, giving you detailed insights into how your content performs across web traffic, newsletters, and member subscriptions - all in real-time, all from the same place you publish everyday.
Ghost (Pro) pays for the new analytics system for publishers on their Publisher tier or higher.
Those on lower tiers need to pay for it themselves, but many will fit just fine in the free tier offered by TinyBird, the company Ghost paired with to create the new Ghost analytics system.
Also if you are a publisher with over 10K subscribers who uses Ghost (Pro), their pricing came down, and you are eligible for the new pricing plans. See the changelog for details.
For publishers with a smaller audience who are already on Ghost (Pro), your price is grandfathered in but new publishers with a smaller audience will have a higher price.
We’re excited for the new changes to Ghost. I often tell people that when I saw Ghost with memberships built in 2020, I thought this is the future for membership-centric publications. That's why we built Outpost, and I think that’s even more true now.
We love helping our member publishers extend the power of Ghost to build the next generation of independent and sustainable media.
Nothing we do would be possible without the great work that Ghost does building an open-source, membership-focussed publishing platform, and we’re so happy to see this next major version released to all.
Onwards!
